Ruckman Luke Jackson has made history by being crowned Fremantle’s best player for season 2026, winning his first Doig Medal at Crown Perth on Saturday night.

Following an outstanding season, Jackson edged out reigning Doig Medallist and three-time winner Caleb Serong, as well as 2022 winner and four-time runner-up Andrew Brayshaw, at the Doig Medal Presentation Dinner.

By the second scoreboard check-in of the night (Rounds 9–16), Jackson had taken the lead over Brayshaw and never looked back, leading the count for the rest of the evening.

Jackson played every game as the side’s No.1 ruckman, with the 25-year-old averaging 26.5 hitouts and 4.9 clearances while also kicking 29 goals.
Jackson’s individual season was also recognised with his first All Australian selection in August.

After receiving the prestigious award, Jackson reflected on his season.

"To be honest, I can’t believe it,” Jackson said.

“I grew up supporting this Club, and to play for Fremantle is special.

“A lot of credit needs to go to the coaches for making me the player I am.

“And playing alongside some of these boys makes it easier for me, and I look a lot better when Sebba, Bolts and Andy are crumbing at my feet.”

Brayshaw’s amazing consistency saw him finish runner-up for the fourth consecutive season, following his inaugural Doig Medal win in 2022. The courageous midfielder secured 229 votes and joins Club legend Matthew Pavlich as one of only two players to have finished in the top two of the Doig Medal count for five consecutive seasons.

Serong finished just one vote behind Brayshaw, in third place with 228 votes.

Spearhead Josh Treacy rounded out the top four with 218 votes. Treacy booted a career-high 57 goals for the season and also earned his first All Australian blazer. The 24-year-old has now finished in the top four of the Doig Medal count for three consecutive seasons.

First-year mid/forward Chris Scerri was named the Club’s most promising young player, claiming the Beacon Award, after a whirlwind season saw him play nine AFL games. After a last minute decision to train with Fremantle instead of Richmond, the 20-year-old joined the Club as a Supplemental Selection Period signing in February this year.

Newly minted Fremantle Life Member and captain Alex Pearce took home his third consecutive Players’ Award, voted for by teammates in recognition of another season of leadership and stability on and off field.

Alongside Jackson’s Doig Medal win and Serong’s top-three finish, the pair were named joint winners of the Player of the Finals Series Award. Both took their games to new heights during the Club’s exhilarating finals campaign which culminated in Fremantle’s second Grand Final appearance.

Fittingly, retiring star Sam Switkowski was named Best Clubman, in addition to finishing in the top 10 of the count. The honour recognised the genuine character and qualities appreciated by everyone who has worked with, or alongside him, across the Club.
