Just like he did in 2015, Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe has made it clear that he couldn’t have won his 2019 Brownlow Medal without a significant amount of support from his teammates.

Fyfe especially paid tribute to hard-working midfielders Darcy Tucker and Reece Conca and thanked them for often putting the team above their own games.

“Brownlow Medals aren’t won on your own, there’s a number of players that go into it and I wish I could individually thank every single player,” Fyfe said.

“Two players I will point out, Darcy Tucker and Reece Conca who have the task of being accountable for my man quite often when I have to go hunt the footy.

“To Darcy and Reece, thanks very much for the selfless roles you play.

“The texts that I get from ‘Concs’ before games saying ‘you get after the pill and I’ll cover your man’ – I can’t tell you how important that is as a player and a leader to be able to have that sort of confidence in your teammates - that they’re going to have your back.”

Fyfe and Tucker celebrate a goal in round 14

Fyfe said in a post-game interview with the AFL that he planned to enjoy the moment with his teammates.

“I’ll try and get back to the Fremantle players and really celebrate with them,” Fyfe said.

“It’s a Fremantle medal, you can’t win these without your teammates so I’ll get back to them, give them a big hug and enjoy what should be a fun night.”
