Five Fremantle-listed players were in action for round five of the WAFLW.

Senior Fremantle coach Trent Cooper talks us through his thoughts on the round

Claremont 4.5 (29) defeated East Fremantle 4.4 (28)

Fremantle players in action: Jasmin Stewart (Claremont), Gabby O’Sullivan (East Fremantle)

This game was a really entertaining affair and was only one point the difference. East Fremantle kicked their last goal with 20 seconds to go so they didn’t get a restart and Claremont were never really in danger in the last quarter.

Jasmin Stewart continued her good form with a really good consistent four quarter effort. She was there early on when they were under a bit of pressure and then she worked her way through the middle quarters really strongly. We’re very pleased with the way she’s going about things at the moment.

Gabby O’Sullivan started really well and was responsible for a lot of East Freo’s early inside 50’s. Along with the rest of the team she struggled through the middle quarters when Claremont were well and truly on top but she did run the game out strongly.

Peel Thunder 2.7 (19) lost to Subiaco 10.10 (70)

Fremantle players in action: Katie-Jayne Grieve (Peel), Hayley Miller (Subiaco), Leah Mascall (Subiaco)

This match was a bit one-sided and Subiaco were simply way too strong for Peel.

Katie-Jayne Grieve played her first game for Peel and was definitely one of their better players. She had a couple of good sidesteps and solid runs through the middle and it was good seeing Katie get her hands on the ball early, so we’re looking for her to build from here.

It was also Hayley Miller’s first game for the year, and I thought she was very close to best-on ground. Miller started on half back which is a different position for her and gave good rebound. When she moved into the middle she showed her trademark running bounces away from stoppage and finished with a lovely goal.

Leah Mascall is continuing to play in the midfield and is using the ball really well. She said that she didn’t get as much of the ball as she would have liked over the weekend, but we’re really pleased to see her running around injury-free and playing with a bit of freedom which will help her for the AFLW season.
