Fremantle have been given a boost heading into Saturday’s preliminary final against Carlton at Ikon Park with Sabreena Duffy cleared to play.

The emerging young forward came off late in Fremantle’s round seven win against North Melbourne with an ankle injury and was given until the last minute to prove her fitness before Fremantle flew out on Friday morning.

AFLW senior coach Trent Cooper said that Duffy, who was yesterday named in the AFLW All Australian squad, trained well on Thursday evening.

“We were very concerned last week with the way she went down and the ankle had a lot of bruising,” Cooper said.

“But she’s a really tough kid, we were just worried if it was ok structurally, and it was.

“She trained last night, so she’ll definitely be playing.”

The game will be Fremantle’s first AFLW final but Cooper feels that the team is already used to the experience of playing in do-or-die clashes.

“There’s a lot of excitement, it hasn’t been too different in the fact that it feels like we’ve been playing a final for the past three weeks, where any loss would have meant we were out,” Cooper said.

“That doesn’t change this week, we need to keep winning to stay in, it’s a good reward for the girls’ efforts to be playing in a final, so we’re really looking forward to it.”

The game commences at 2.45pm EDT (11.45am WST) and will be broadcast into WA on Channel 7 and Fox Footy.
