Fremantle midfielder Ed Langdon has heaped praise on defender Ryan Nyhuis after two impressive performances since his return to the senior side.

Nyhuis kept dangerous Crows forward Eddie Betts relatively quiet in Sunday night’s clash against Adelaide, with Betts only converting a goal from the pocket in the last three minutes of the match.

Nyhuis racked up 17 possessions, six marks and seven one-percent efforts of his own.

“It’s amazing what he does, he comes in and tends not to miss a beat,” Langdon said.

“He plays his role straight away so it’s a credit to him.

“We’re really impressed, and he played another great role on Eddie Betts.”

Nyhuis’ game against the Crows backed up another strong performance the week prior against the Western Bulldogs, where he played an important role in rebounding the football from Fremantle’s defensive 50.

Langdon was also impressive against Adelaide gathering 27 disposals (11 contested), eight marks, five clearances and five inside 50’s.

The midfielder said the scrappy nature of the game and poor skill execution made it hard to implement Fremantle’s game-plan.

“It was certainly a strange game to play in, and it felt like it was played between the 50 metre arcs for a lot of the game,” Langdon said.

“There were a lot of turnovers as well, so it made it hard for any sort of flow.

“Our connection with the forwards wasn’t quite there this week and our composure when we were going inside 50 wasn’t as good as it has been.

“It was certainly the most contested game we’ve played this year.”

The attention of the group now turns to round eight as they prepare to face Richmond this Sunday at Optus Stadium.

“The Tigers are a contested team so they will bring the heat,” Langdon said.

“We know at home in particular if we play our brand of footy, we’re pretty tough to beat.

“If we bring the pressure and clean up a few of our mechanics we’ll be in pretty good stead.”

Bounce down for Sunday’s clash is at 3.20pm WST with tickets available at Ticketmaster.
