As a self-described pressure forward who ‘loves a goal’, Lachlan Schultz is hopeful he can make an instant impact at Fremantle.

The 20-year-old was overjoyed to be drafted at Fremantle at Friday’s NAB AFL National Draft, being selected in the fourth round at no.57.

“It’s an absolute dream come true, to go to such a great club that I have respected for so long and to be part of it…I can’t wait to get started. I’m full of emotions,” Schultz said.

“I couldn’t be happier, Perth is such an amazing place and I’m keen to get away and start a new lifestyle over there with new mates. I’m ready for the start of it all.”

Schultz was selected at Fremantle with Williamstown teammate Brett Bewley, with the pair playing together for the past two years in the VFL.

He hopes that with some hard work at training, they will be able to transition well to AFL level.

“The biggest upside to playing VFL before getting drafted would be from playing against mature age bodies,” Schultz said.

“In the VFL you play against ready-made men and you are playing against a lot of AFL players.

“It takes your professionalism to another level I suppose, it gets you one step ahead of you being ready to impact the AFL.

“This pre-season I’ll look to develop my game as much as I can with the role Ross Lyon and the rest of the coaching staff need me to turn into.

“I’d like to be able to focus on footy full time and, hopefully, that will mean it will allow me to grow a lot as a football player and person.”
