Two weeks into her AFLW career, forward Roxy Roux is still pinching herself.

After wowing the 35,158 fans in attendance with her two goals in last Saturday’s RAC Derby, the 18-year-old earned NAB AFLW Rising Star and Mark of the Year nominations.

Roux said all she has wanted to do was to play football at the highest possible level.

“I’ve wanted this for such a long time, it’s been a lifelong dream of mine,” Roux said.

“I remember Mum saying to me, if there’s no women’s league we’ll get you into the men’s league, and if not we’ll get you to the highest level.

“I’m really excited to be able to use the facilities here, be with the girls and be exposed to a whole different level of the sport.”

The stakes continue to get higher for Roux and Fremantle, facing Collingwood this Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash at Fremantle Oval.

Roux said the group wasn’t getting ahead of themselves.

“We’re taking it session by session and game by game at the moment,” Roux said.

“We’re really working hard on our weaknesses and strengths. Everyone is working really well as a team and we’ll see what we can do on the weekend.

“We’ve watched the reviews and done our training as best as we can so we’ll be looking forward to the game.”

Fremantle face Collingwood on Saturday 22 February at Fremantle Oval. Bounce down is at 4.10pm.

The game is an Indigenous themed game and Fremantle will proudly wear an Indigenous-themed jumper for the first time.
