There was a deluge of goals as Fremantle posted a record score of 28.12 (180) with a 112 point thumping of Collingwood on 8 May 2005.

At the time, the game broke Fremantle’s record for highest score and biggest win and it remains Freo’s highest score in a game.

The stats sheet was stacked with highlights.

The Carr brothers dominated. Josh had 39 disposals and eight inside 50s, Matthew had 29 disposals and two goals.

Peter Bell’s numbers almost matched that of Matthew Carr with 28 disposals and two goals.

Of course, Matthew Pavlich dominated up front with six goals, although Des Headland and Luke McPharlin weren’t far behind with five each.

It was a snooze-fest down back for the likes of Shane Parker (nine disposals, one mark) and Michael Johnson (seven disposals, two marks) but we’re sure they didn’t mind.

Bell kicked the opening two goals but it was the Pavlich show early, kicking three in the first term.

By quarter time, Fremantle had broken their first record of the day with their best opening term of 9.2 (53) to the Magpies’ three behinds.

The second quarter was more even, with Freo kicing six goals to four, and it was a screamer from McPharlin that provided the highlight.

Fremantle’s lead jumped to 102 points during the third quarter before the Pies pulled it back to 90 points at the final break.

Freo continued to build their lead with a six-goal final term. McPharlin’s fifth goal in the final minute capped off the club’s 112-point win.
