Luke McPharlin says he’ll definitely go on in 2014 and he’s confident fellow club greats Matthew Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands are also on board.

The Fremantle veterans were among the club’s best performers in the 15-point Grand Final loss to Hawthorn on Saturday.

McPharlin told media in Perth on Monday that the trio had come too far to not give it another go.

“We love this football club and we’ve invested so much in it,” said.

“To be senior players and leaders is a privilege and one that we’d like to continue.

“Provided our bodies hold up for another season, I’m mentally and emotionally keen to keep on going.”

Freo has been installed as outright premiership favourites for the 2014 season, but the All Australian defender warned that the club couldn’t afford to think like that.

“It’s a ruthless game… there’s no guarantee we’ll be there next year,” he said.

“None of the players have said we’re going to come back next year and do it all again.”

Echoing senior coach Ross Lyon’s words, McPharlin said all the club could do was focus on improvement.

“We’re certainly going to come back in the pre-season and get to work and focus immediately on what we need to fix, and that’s to grow this football team,” he said.

The 31-year-old admitted he entered the Grand Final sore, but added that was not unexpected at this time of year.

He had missed the last seven games of the home and away season with a calf injury and trained only lightly in the week leading up to the Grand Final.

“I was a bit sore, that was fairly obvious,” he said.

“But probably no more sore than a lot of guys at this stage of the year.”
