Fremantle supporter group The Sirens have once again thrown their support behind the Starlight Purple Haze game.

The all-female supporter group will be recognised at half time of Sunday’s annual Starlight Purple Haze game against St Kilda at Optus Stadium after raising more than $15,000 to help support seriously ill children and their families.

The vast majority of the funds were raised at a high tea, which a number of Fremantle’s AFL and AFLW players attended to give their support.

Sirens’ group coordinator Diane Meakins said the event was a great success.

“We had 282 ladies at the high tea and we raised over $15,000,” Meakins said.

“We had Fremantle’s Starlight ambassadors come down and we also had five players from the AFLW team. It was two hours, jam-packed of fundraising and fun.

“I think Griffin Logue’s auctioning ability was a highlight and we raffled an amazing cake made by Maddie Shae, which raised $1000.”

Meakins said that Starlight was a cause that was close to all at the Sirens.

“I think most of us are mothers or grandmothers so we understand what it’s like having sick kids and impact that that has on families,” Meakins sadi.

“Anything that we feel we can do to bring a little bit of joy to those kids or to their families, it obviously makes us feel good as well.

“A number of our ladies have had children or grandchildren who have been supported by Starlight, so it’s a cause close to our hearts.”
