Hayden Ballantyne believes he should be considered as both a forward and a midfielder.

The livewire began the season in the middle, but he has been integrated back into the forward line as the season has progressed.

“I think I can play both,” Ballantyne said.

“I’ve played the majority of the season in the forward line and I still pinch hit in the midfield.

“Hopefully I can have an impact when I go in there.”

Ballantyne said the shift away from the midfield was not a reflection of form or performance.

“I needed to learn the structures a bit better and I think I’ve started to do that,” he said.

“I’m getting a bit more time in the midfield now.”

The 25-year-old said there was one detractor to playing up forward with captain Matthew Pavlich, who has kicked 24 goals in the past five weeks.

“It’s not the best playing under ‘Pav’ because he marks all of the balls, so I don’t get much of a crumb,” he joked.

“It’s good, and it’s good having Michael Walters down there too, another nippy small forward.

Ballantyne has been suspended twice this season and admitted he had been “silly” on both occasions.

“After every game I sit back and have a look at what I’ve done wrong and what I’ve done right,” he said.

“Silly things like that shouldn’t happen in a game.

“You can’t really cog it back, that’s the thing. If you play on instinct it’s a split-second decision.

“Hopefully, most of the time I make good decisions, but you know I’ll do my best not to make those silly decisions from now on.”
