NAB Cup Squads named for Saturday
Fremantle takes on the Saints at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night for a spot in the NAB Cup Grand Final. Bouncedown 7.10pm EST.
Captain Matthew Pavlich returns into the initial squad of 29, along with Paul Hasleby, Byron Schammer, Adam McPhee, Kepler Bradley and Stephen Dodd, who has recovered well following wrist and shoulder surgery in the pre-season.
Michael Walters has also been named and is a chance to play his first game of 2010.
New recruit Jesse Crichton and Ben Bucovaz, who missed most of 2009 through injury, are both in line for a NAB Cup debut if selected in the final team.
Antoni Grover and Jay van Berlo come out of the team through injury, while key players David Mundy, Luke McPharlin, Hayden Ballantyne and Chris Mayne have been rested.
Fremantle Coach Mark Harvey said it was the club’s pre-season policy to rotate at least six players a week and that would not change with a NAB Cup grand final spot up for grabs.
“Our whole focus is round one, so we’ve just got to make sure we don’t get sidetracked with that,” the coach said from Fremantle Oval on Thursday.
“It’d be great for our fans and our members [to make a grand final], but we’ve had this policy imprinted over the pre-season and that’s what we were going to do, no matter what circumstance we found ourselves in.
“Our whole policy throughout the course of this has been to rotate six players every week and we’ll do that again this week.”
