Fremantle are pleased to report an increase in club memberships, during an AFL season severely impacted by Covid-19.

The club’s 2020 total of 51,577 members surpasses their 2019 membership tally of 51,431, despite the reduced number of games, reduced stadium capacity and uncertainty surrounding the season.

CEO Simon Garlick said he was blown away by the number of Fremantle members who got behind the club in 2020.

“The overwhelming support from our members has ensured that our club can remain in a strong position as we look to stay financially independent for as long as possible, in what remains an incredibly challenging time,” Garlick said.

“I have no doubt all AFL clubs would consider their members to be special, but I remember when Justin Longmuir gave his first media conference as senior coach, he spoke from the heart about the passion of the Fremantle fans.

“At the time it seemed like a relatively standard comment for a new coach to make about the Club’s supporters, but he obviously had a strong understanding and insight as a former player.

“It really strikes me now, when you reflect on the year we’ve had, what Justin was referring to and how amazing the support and the generosity has been from our members in a time of need.

“This membership result is not just a sign of support, it’s a sign of our potential as we look to grow off the field and strive for success on the field.

“Approaching the end of my first year in the role, I now fully understand how fortunate we are to have the Purple Army behind us.

“On behalf of the entire Club, I want to sincerely thank everyone of our 51,577 members for their unwavering support in 2020.

“We exist because of and for our members, and the loyalty and commitment they have provided this year is an inspiration for us as we build towards sustained success both on and off the field.”
