Gemma Houghton and Gabby O'Sullivan

Fremantle forward Gabby O’Sullivan hopes to see a Fremantle forward line in full flight in 2021, saying it should be a scary proposition for any AFLW defence.

O’Sullivan highlighted Roxy Roux, who is set to commence her second AFLW season as well as two-time All Australian Gemma Houghton as the players to look out for.

Thanks to an intense off-season running regimen with assistant coach Lisa Webb, who is also a former elite runner, Houghton shone with her pace on the track.

“Gemma improves every single year. She’s feeling good, she’s fit and training well and she’s got that X-factor and I don’t think anyone’s seen what she’s capable of yet,” O’Sullivan said.

“There’s other girls as well, such as Roxy. No-one’s seen Roxy at her peak and that’s really scary.

“They’re only going to get better by playing with people like Turbo (Kiara Bowers) kicking the ball lace out to them. It’s exciting and there’s a good future for the club.”

O’Sullivan said that Fremantle would benefit from having minimal player turnover in the off-season, needing to only bring in five new faces this off-season.

Through the draft, Freo added Sarah Verrier, Mikayla Morrison and Tiah Haynes and also picked up former West Coast forward Tarnee Tester and Maggie MacLachlan.

“We have draftees such as Sarah Verrier and Maggie MacLachlan coming through, they’re all going to have massive careers and be superstars,” O’Sullivan said.

“The girls that we’ve brought in are really talented and it also allows you to maintain that chemistry.

“We’ve been building towards how we’ve been playing for a while, at least three years now. When you’ve got players coming in and out, it’s really hard to build that chemistry but because we’ve been together for so long now, we’re starting to click really well."
