Rivalry round certainly stood up to its name last weekend in the WAFL.

Round 11 saw two huge upsets in Subiaco’s ten point win over ladder leaders Claremont at their home ground and South Fremantle’s thrashing of East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval last Sunday.

East Perth stole a win over second placed West Perth at Medibank Stadium on Monday.

The win to East Perth allowed them in the top four on the ladder whilst East Fremantle’s 11 goal loss to South Fremantle pushed the Sharks out.

After having a weekend off for the bye, fresh-legged Peel Thunder will take on fifth placed East Fremantle this Saturday at East Fremantle Oval.

Simon Lloyd shared his notes on all Fremantle Dockers who played WAFL last weekend.

Josh Simpson (EF) 16 disposals (5 kicks, 11 handballs) 2 goals

Josh started the game on the wing and had an immediate impact with a strong tackle and won the free to convert the goal. Overall, for the game he had six tackles and in the second quarter he went onto the half forward flank where he looked a lot more comfortable and got to a number of front and squares and carried the ball between the arcs well. He played as an inside midfielder at stages during the second half and got involved in the play by staying close. He copped a hit high and went off with the blood rule, so it was a real credit that he was able to complete the game under some duress, which is what we expect of a Fremantle player.

Max Duffy (EF) 18 disposals (11 kicks, 7 handballs) 1 goal

Max started the game with good energy and run but we found that he played a bit too lateral in the early stages. In the second quarter he positioned better at stoppages and got involved. He had an impact around the contested ball at boundary throw ins around the ground and demonstrated a good ground ball win at a stoppage. He had periods as an inside mid in the fourth quarter where he won the ball a couple of times, which included a fast break from a centre bounce and an entry kick to Josh Simpson. We are focussing on Max's two way run and pressure and his ability to get from contest to contest and stay in the game.

Alex Howson (EF) Reserves 8 disposals (7 kicks, 1 handball) 5 goals

Alex kicked five goals, two were from marks on a lead, one from a snap shot and two from strong contested marks in the final quarter. It was positive that Alex was able to convert after both marks. He finished really well with five goals. We are looking at building on the contested marks that were taken later in the game.

Alex Silvagni (C) 8 disposals (5 kicks, 3 handballs)

Alex played his first half forward and his second in defence. When he was forward he often presented as a short hit up target inside 50 although Claremont preferred to go into the deeper option. He took a strong contested mark in the first quarter from good off ball run, which resulted in a set shot. His run improved as the game wore on. When in defence late in the game he showed good bounce out of the defensive 50 to give some rebound.

Josh Mellington (WP) 18 disposals (11 kicks, 7 handballs) 1 goal

Josh played inside mid and high forward. He applied consistent pressure off the front of stoppages. His ball use demonstrated some sharp handballs and he kicked the ball well. Josh tackled aggressively when the opposition was close to him. Josh's focus is to consistently work hard with his run into forward 50 when his team has the football.
