Tough Fremantle midfielder Katie-Jayne Grieve has been recalled for one of the biggest games of the year in Freo’s RAC Derby clash at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Grieve trailed only Kiara Bowers for tackles in the 2020 AFLW season and her physicality against the Eagles in the inaugural RAC Derby in 2020 made her one of the best on ground.

Rookie forward Mikayla Hyde also comes into the team after both she and Grieve showed good form in the WAFLW playing for Swan Districts and Peel respectively.

They come in for midfielder Bianca Webb and forward Ashley Sharp, who will be emergencies for the clash.

Senior coach Trent Cooper said Grieve has been out of the line-up as she built her fitness and is looking for her to recreate her 2020 RAC Derby heroics where she had 11 disposals, 11 tackles and two goals.

“KJ is a valuable part of our midfield when she’s up and going and she’s worked hard on her fitness and got to the level and is now playing some good footy,” Cooper said.

“We’re looking forward to her being back for what should be a physical RAC Derby. She’ll thrive in that environment and she’s got a great Optus Stadium record as well.

“We’re in a good position now with the WAFLW players in some really good form. Mikayla Hyde and Katie-Jayne have both demanded selection with their really good form over the past two weeks. We’re really pleased and Mikayla was probably unlucky to go out of the side in the first place.”

Bouncedown for the AFLW clash is at 1.40pm followed by a Fremantle v West Coast AAMI Community Series game at 4.10pm.

Fremantle members with game access will get free entry to the double header, which includes all seated members, flexi members and AFLW members.

Members must still register for a free ticket via Ticketmaster for entry.

Non game-access members (i.e Purple Army members) and general public entry to the double header is encompassed in one $20 ticket ($15 for concession), while children under 15 are free but will still require a $0 ticket to enter the venue.
