FREMANTLE draftee Stephen Hill showed he's capable of stepping straight into AFL ranks this season with a sizzling performance in the club's practice match at Subiaco Oval on Monday night.

One particular piece of play halfway through the 75-minute hit-out demonstrated why the club took the 18-year-old West Australian at pick No. 3 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft.

After receiving the ball in a congested forward line, Hill expertly sidestepped an opponent, put on the afterburners and drilled a goal from 35m out.

His work-rate throughout the contest was admirable, with his lightning speed and poise under pressure sure to have impressed coach Mark Harvey.

Rookie Clancee Pearce was another to impress, picking up a glut of possessions off half-back.

Giant ruckman Aaron Sandilands dominated Kepler Bradley in the ruck while gun onballer Rhys Palmer was prolific at ground level.

Captain Matthew Pavlich played predominantly as a midfielder and offered solid service roving to Sandilands, while Byron Schammer, Steven Dodd, Ryan Crowley and Luke McPharlin were others to stand out.

Midfielder Paul Hasleby made a successful comeback after missing all of last year with a knee injury but missing from the hit-out were Chris Tarrant, Michael Johnson, Antoni Grover, Des Headland, Daniel Gilmore, Roger Hayden, Paul Duffield, Hayden Ballantyne, Garrick Ibbotson and Chris Mayne.

Headland, battling a calf injury, is the only player who may be unavailable for the Dockers' NAB Cup opener against Richmond on February 15.
