Dr Richard Walley at Fremantle's AFLW smoking ceremony at Fremantle Oval

No.1 ticket holder Dr Richard Walley will transition into a higher honorary role at Fremantle when he becomes the official Patron of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Club president Dale Alcock announced the new role for Walley at the club’s 2021 AFL Season Launch at Crown Perth on Thursday.

Walley has been the club’s no.1 ticket holder since 2016 and has played a crucial role as Fremantle has continued to enhance its connection with Aboriginal culture.

These contributions have included helping the Club develop its Reconciliation Action Plans, designing and assisting with the design of the Club’s Indigenous jumpers and facilitating the Club’s smoking ceremonies.

“In some way, shape, or form, Dr Richard Walley has been involved with our Club for many years providing valuable guidance and counsel on many matters,” Alcock said.

“In 2016 we recognised Richard’s significant contribution to the Fremantle Dockers and appointed him no.1 Ticket Holder of our Club.

“Today, after five years in that ambassadorial role and as further recognition of Richard’s ongoing contribution to our Club, it gives me great pleasure to announce Dr Richard Walley will assume an even higher honorary position within our football club as he becomes the official Patron of the Fremantle Dockers.”

Walley becomes the third Patron of the Club, joining past Patrons John Sanderson and Ken Michael.
