Fremantle players and NGA coaches during a visit to Warmun in 2020

Fremantle Football Club’s Community Engagement Team, lead by Simon Eastaugh and Next Generation Academy coach, Roger Hayden, will spend a week in the Kimberley conducting youth football clinics and coach education workshops.

The trip starts in Broome on 12 April the home town of Joel Hamling, where the group will drive more than 1000km over four days visiting Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek, Warmun (home town of NGA graduate Leno Thomas) before concluding in Kununurra on Friday

A significant part of this trip will highlight a new and important partnership between the Club, WA Police and the WAFC, providing coach education and AFL endorsed coach accreditation for front-line police officers in regional WA. The objective of this partnership is to immerse WA Police officers in junior and youth football clubs, as coaches, umpires or support staff, building stronger relationships in communities to achieve greater social outcomes.

Eastaugh said the club was excited to once again have the opportunity to visit the area.

“This is our first trip to the Kimberley in 2021, where Roger and I will be engaging with local male and female youth participants, in 5 towns, to run NGA youth football clinics and to share our expertise, along with WAFC Head of Coaching, Marc Webb, with local coaches and frontline police officers” Eastaugh said. “To be able to build the capacity of community coaching in regional WA is a significant pillar of our Fans & Community division and to be able to partner with WA Police and the West Australian Football Commission to implement this new initiative, we believe, will assist greatly in growing our game and improving the unity in regional communities”

“We’ve always been impressed with the passion and football talent since our first visit in 2017 and we’re delighted to be an integral part of providing participation and talent pathway programs for boys and girls in the Kimberley region”
