Seventeen Fremantle players have been in action in the WAFLW in the past two weeks.

Senior coach Trent Cooper runs through how they fared.

In the past two weeks we’ve introduced a number of players back into the WAFLW. The competition is being played at a high standard, there’s a lot of AFLW players from both Freo and West Coast and the State 18s team is back as well. There’s been some great footy to watch.

Ange Stannett (Subiaco)
Ange had a solid game back last week and then really stepped it up on the weekend. She was very influential, particularly when she moved to the wing. It was good to see her developing her craft in a different position.

Sarah Verrier (Peel)
Sarah’s been solid down back in her two games. She was really  influential when moved onto the wing at the start of the last quarter on the weekend with some elite delivery inside 50 and she played a big part in Peel storming home to nearly catch Swan Districts.

Sabreena Duffy (Peel)
We have a lot of players who are working to see if they can become midfield options, to help out the likes of Kiara Bowers and Hayley Miller next year. Sabreena is one of those. She was solid first up and it was pleasing to see her be the best on ground on Saturday. She had 30 touches, tackled hard and was really good in the stoppages. If she gets fit enough, she’s definitely capable of being an on-baller for us. That’s an exciting prospect.

Jasmin Stewart (Claremont)
Jas has also been working on playing in different roles in the WAFLW. She’s had two solid games on the wing for Claremont. She copped a really big hit on the weekend but bounced back to finish the game. She’s tracking along nicely.

Katie-Jayne Grieve (Peel)
Katie’s been working on a different role playing forward for Peel to make her more versatile. She’s leading at the ball hard and her forward pressure is elite, as you’d expect with her tackling. She had an influence on the weekend with her 10 touches.

Maggie MacLachlan (Subiaco)
Maggie’s been battling an ankle injury, so it was her first game back on the weekend and she’ll be better for that run. We’re looking for her to play well next week.

Roxy Roux (East Fremantle)
Roxy is another one that we’re working on as an inside mid and she’s also going forward. On the weekend she had 18 touches, so it was really good to see her get her hands on the footy that often. As someone with a bit of a bigger body, we’ll see if we can get her up and going to be able to swing into the midfield at times in 2022.

Phillipa Seth (East Fremantle)
Phil has always had the capability of playing in the midfield as she’s such an elite runner. On the weekend, she showed that with 28 touches. It’s really good that she’s getting her hands on the ball and using it really well. We’ll continue to work on her stoppage craft but she‘s running really hard and spreading from the contest.

Hayley Miller (Subiaco)
Hayley’s been best on ground in both games for Subi. She had 23 touches in the midfield last week and was really influential. On the weekend, in a low scoring game, she went forward and kicked three goals, which was the difference in the game. She’s one that we’d like to be able to play forward at times next year and we think that she can stretch the opposition when she does so. It’s great that Subiaco are letting her do that and she’s showing her potential by kicking three goals.

Stephanie Cain (Swan Districts)
Steph played her first game back on the weekend. She was a little bit rusty, which can be expected, but she had 16 touches and as usual, her positioning was really good. What was especially pleasing, was seeing her leadership with a young Swan Districts side and he’ll get a lot out of that.

Mim Strom (South Fremantle)
We don’t want Mim bashing and crashing in the ruck too often at the moment. South Fremantle have been good in helping her develop a second position. She’s been playing mainly at centre half forward. She was ok in her first game but last week she showed a lot, taking seven marks in a losing side. That will be good for her development.

Gabby O’Sullivan (East Fremantle)
Gabby was best on ground for East Fremantle in their loss last week. She then played in the midfield on the weekend and had 31 possessions. She’s another who hasn’t played inside but there’s no reason why she can’t be a really good inside midfielder. It’s really giving us a lot of options if she’s winning the footy because we know how valuable she is with the ball in hand. We also know that she’ll defend hard as well.

Matilda Sergeant (Claremont)
Tildi was a little bit rusty first up last week but she was listed as Claremont’s best on the weekend, which was good for her role in defence. She took some nice intercept marks in the process.

Bianca Webb (Swan Districts)
Bianca was solid first up last week, she had 14 touches in the win over Claremont. She was Swans Districts’ best on the weekend with 24 touches and eight crunching tackles. She did some good clearance work too, so she’s putting her hand up to play in the midfield for 2022 already.

Mikayla Hyde (Swan Districts)
Mikayla’s been playing on the wing. She’s been consistent with 21 touches and then 15 the next week. Her ball use really makes her stand out in the WAFLW competition. She hit the scoreboard on the weekend as well which was great for her.

Laura Pugh (Claremont)
Last week, Laura had 16 touches and was one of Claremont’s best against Swan Districts when they were under siege. She did really well, won a lot of her one-on-one contests and then distributed the ball well. She then had a week off on the weekend.

Tiah Toth (Subiaco)
Tiah Toth (née Haynes) had her first game on the weekend and played forward. She struggled to have an impact but she’ll be better for the run and we’ll look for her to bounce back.
