Freo's last win at night at the MCG - a four point thriller against Richmond in 2015 where David Mundy kicked the winner

Fremantle’s round 16 clash with Carlton has been finalised, taking on the Blues on Saturday night at the MCG.

Bouncedown will be at 7.40pm EST (5.40pm WST).

Under Victorian government regulations, the crowd capacity will be capped at 25,000.

Ticket information for this game will be released shortly and Melbourne members will receive an email from the club soon with information on how to claim their tickets.

The game was originally fixtured to be played at Optus Stadium, however Fremantle have since left WA to Melbourne amid the current Covid-19 situation in the Perth and Peel regions.

While Fremantle were hopeful of playing the game at a more neutral venue, CEO Simon Garlick said the Club understood the options became limited given the unique circumstances and that the team were excited to test their emerging list at the the MCG in a prime-time fixture.

“From a football perspective,  this is as a significant opportunity to test ourselves on the AFL’s biggest stage and our players and coaching staff are excited about the challenge.

“We now play at a ground that is a few minutes from our hotel and one that we ordinarily have limited chances to play at. We are working towards playing here more often in future seasons so this is something we are really looking forward to.

“Having the game at the MCG also allows us the chance to have a crowd of up to 25,000 at the game, which is a great opportunity for our many Victorian members and supporters to watch us live two weeks in a row, and can help slightly minimise the financial blow of losing a second Optus Stadium game in front of our WA fans.”

The Carlton clash was originally scheduled to be the Starlight Purple Haze game, presented by South 32.

“Because we are not taking on Carlton at home, we have decided to move our 19th Starlight Purple Haze game to another game to be advised,” Garlick said.

“The Purple Haze game is an incredibly important Club event. We’re disappointed for the number of people involved with Starlight who were excited to be involved in Saturday night’s game, and I know I can speak for our members and supporters that as a Fremantle family, we will do what we can this year to continue our support for seriously ill children and their families.”
