More than 300 participants representing various schools across the metro and country regions descended upon Legacy Park to take part in the 2021 Freo Footy Skills Grand Final last month.

Through the Freo Skills 4 Schools health and physical educational based program, Freo Footy Skills allows students the opportunity to participate in a range of fun physical activities, including Freo Fast Ball, Freo Kwik Kick and Freo Long Bomb.

The activities are curriculum-based football competitions conducted in primary schools across the entire state throughout term two, providing students with another platform to develop their footy skills.

By registering, teachers are provided with educational and promotional resources to assist in their implementation of these competitions.

These fun competitions involved students being active in the following ways:

  • Freo Fast Ball: Students participate in a team handballing relay
  • Freo Kwik Kick: Students participate, in pairs, kicking a football over 12 metres to each other as many times as they can in three minutes
  • Freo Long Bomb: Students participate in kicking a football as far as they possibly can

The competitions are conducted by a teacher or by the student council with the winners participating in the grand final event hosted by the Fremantle Dockers Fans and Community team.

With the event unable to go ahead in 2020 due to Covid-19, participants were eager to brave the wet and windy weather in order to be crowned state champions in each of the three competitions.
