Midfielder Kiara Bowers and defender Janelle Cuthbertson have put up a solid session each on the training track as they edge closer to a return to the Fremantle line-up.

Bowers last played for Fremantle in the additional match against the Western Bulldogs between rounds four and five.

The reigning AFLW fairest and best winner missed two games through suspension, before tweaking her knee at training in the week leading up to her scheduled return against Adelaide in round eight.

Meanwhile, Cuthbertson is on track to return in the first week of finals to bolster Fremantle’s defence.

The All-Australian defender last played for Fremantle in round two against GWS, missing the majority of the season after sustaining a fractured jaw at training.

Senior Coach Trent Cooper said it was great to see both Bowers and Cuthbertson perform well on the training track.

“It was great to see those two do a session together on Wednesday night and join in on main training for some drills,” Cooper said.

“Kiara is presenting extremely well, she will be involved in full training tonight and we’ll make a decision on her availability, depending on how she trains and how confident she feels.

“JC’s rehab is going exactly to plan, and she will do some more contact work tonight with a view to being available for selection in the first week of the finals.”

Livewire forward Roxy Roux is listed as a test for Fremantle’s round 10 clash with Gold Coast, missing the past two games with a hamstring complaint.

“Roxy trained really well on Wednesday night and looks to have overcome her hamstring issues,” Cooper said.

“It will just be a case of another session tonight to put her hand up for selection.”

Matilda Sergeant will miss this Sunday’s clash with Gold Coast under the AFL’s concussion protocols.

The 22-year-old defender was taken out of Freo’s match with Melbourne just prior to quarter-time after a head knock in the first term.

Kara Antonio, Ebony Antonio and Emma O’Driscoll will be putting their hands up for selection when they come out of the AFL’s Health and Safety Protocols on Saturday morning, while Gabby O’Sullivan and Amy Franklin have been back at training this week after missing last weekend’s game due to being deemed close contacts.

“Kara, Ebony and Emma will finish their one-week quarantine early Saturday morning, so they will do a session after they get out,” Cooper said.

“Everything appears good with them but they haven’t been able to leave their properties, so we will assess them for selection, however, all three of them would be quite likely.”
