Saturday is the new Sunday for Fremantle in 2023, with the AFL locking in the opening 15 rounds of next year’s Toyota 2023 AFL Premiership Season.

Opponents and venues have also been confirmed for rounds 16 to 24, with the dates and times to be announced later in the season.

With the addition of Gather Round, there are now six double up games, with Fremantle facing grand finalists Geelong and Sydney twice, as well as double ups against Brisbane, the Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and West Coast.

Ten of a possible 14 home and away games are scheduled on a Saturday, including Fremantle’s home opener against North Melbourne on 25 March in a 4.30pm twilight fixture.

There are two Friday games, highlighted by a Friday night Len Hall Tribute Game clash against the Western Bulldogs on 21 April, as well as the Gather Round clash.

Fremantle’s Saturday night home games are against Hawthorn in Round 8, Richmond in Round 13 and Essendon in Round 15.

Freo will face the reigning premiers on a Saturday afternoon, taking on Geelong in round 10 at 2.35pm at Optus Stadium.

The RAC Derby games are in Round 3 (home) and Round 22 (away).

Fremantle will play six games in Victoria, with three at the MCG (Melbourne, Collingwood and Hawthorn), two at Marvel Stadium (St Kilda and Western Bulldogs) and one at GMHBA Stadium (Geelong).

There are back-to-back games in South Australia, taking on the Crows in round four at Adelaide Oval and the previously confirmed Gather Round clash against Gold Coast at Norwood Oval.

Fremantle will also visit Queensland once, against Brisbane at The Gabba in Round 7 and NSW twice, against Sydney at the SCG in Round 9 and GWS at GIANTS Stadium in Round 14.

CEO Simon Garlick said the fixture added to the anticipation for next season.

“Our 2023 fixture will give our members and supporters plenty of reasons to be excited for next season,” Garlick said.

“We have at least four opportunities to showcase Optus Stadium at night, and it’s incredibly exciting for the Club to play our Len Hall Tribute Game in front of a national audience on a Friday.

“We understand how much the Saturday evening timeslot suits our members who are involved in community sport or from the regions, so it’s a great result to have four games in either the twilight or night timeslot on a Saturday.

“We are pleased to play three games at the MCG and our double up games, particularly against the two grand finalists, will no doubt provide some exciting challenges for our emerging playing list.”

Garlick confirmed that Fremantle would look to have an extended stay in South Australia between rounds four and five.

“With the AFL announcing an extra round that guaranteed travel for WA-based teams, we spoke to the AFL about ways we could minimise the travel burden on our players,” Garlick said.

“With our round four game against Adelaide coming the week prior to Gather Round, we have the opportunity to spend a week on the road and bond as a group, something that has been incredibly valuable in previous years.”
