Luke Ryan has backed forward Lachie Schultz to be fit and ready to go against Sydney on Saturday at the SCG.

Schultz put his body on the line on multiple occasions in round eight against Hawthorn, getting winded and appearing to hurt his shoulder in separate incidents.

The small forward did not appear to be affected by any injuries during Wednesday’s main training as he got through the session without issue.

Ryan said Schultz had every reason to feel worse for wear but said no-one was tougher than the 25-year-old.

“He’s one tough cookie,” Ryan told 6PR.

“He always goes 100 per cent, he never takes a backwards step.

“I always laugh when I see the clips (in review), he’s always throwing himself in and having a crack.

“He’s one of the best players to play with as we know he’s going to give 100 per cent every week under any circumstances.

“He’s bounced up and is going again, he’ll be ready again this week.”

Ryan expects Nat Fyfe to also be in the frame to play against Sydney, either in the starting 22 or as a sub.

Fyfe came on in the third quarter against the Hawks, kicking a goal and having 10 disposals as he played a mix of forward and midfield.

“He looked good (against Hawthorn) didn’t he?” Ryan said.

“He looked like he hadn’t missed a beat which is good. He trained today (on Wednesday) and we’ll see how he pulls up.

“We’ll find out (on Thursday) if he plays or not or comes on as a sub.

“It’s really good to see, we play a lot better with him out there.”

Ryan said he was excited for the challenge of taking on the Swans forward line, which contains a number of star players in Lance Franklin, Isaac Heeney and up and coming forward Logan McDonald.

“I definitely won’t be taking Buddy, I’ll leave that for Alex Pearce or (Brennan) Coxy,” Ryan said.

“I think they’ve got three talls down there so I might take Logan McDonald or Heeney. I’ll have my hands full, it should be good.”
