Fremantle midfielder/forward Meg Kauffman has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension, locking in her future at the Club until at least the end of the 2027 NAB AFLW season.
The 28-year-old has become a reliable and versatile contributor since arriving at Fremantle ahead of Season 7 in 2022, featuring in every game since her debut and amassing 36 appearances in purple.
Renowned for her speed, strength and relentless work rate, Kauffman continues to add value both through the midfield and in the forward line.
Kauffman said the decision to extend was an easy one given her growth and connection to Fremantle.
“It’s really exciting. Obviously with Webby’s extension as well and having that security and the environment we’ve created here is something I knew I wanted to be part of, so it was a really easy decision for me,” Kauffman said.
“I’m really building my confidence in my footy career. I feel like I’ve come a long way in how I’ve developed.
“I’m always learning so much about the game, which is what I love about being in this environment here at Freo – I love it.”
The midfielder/forward said every occasion she gets to don the Fremantle jumper is just as special as the one before.
“It’s really special, anytime you get to go out there and pull on the jumper, and to be trusted to play my role and play my part is awesome,” Kauffman said.
Typically, a midfielder but having spent more time working with the forward line this season, Kauffman touched on her work across both lines.
“It’s awesome, when I was working with the mids, there’s so many leaders through there, not just in the way they lead on-field but also the things they teach me off the field and everything that comes in a high-performance environment has been great,” Kauffman said.
“This year, working a lot more with the forwards and getting a real opportunity to work on some more forward craft has been really good.
“The new role lets me really use my weapons out on the field and have another tool I get to use.”
Head of AFLW Claire Heffernan said she was proud of Kauffman’s growth and touched on what she brings to the group.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have Meg commit to the Club for a further two seasons until 2027,” Heffernan said.
“She’s a fantastic person and player and has become such a valued member of our program.”
“Meg brings great versatility and determination to our side, and her work rate on and off the field is second to none. She continues to set really high standards for herself and those around her.”
