Walyalup AFLW senior coach Lisa Webb says there is still plenty of work to do for her side, as they fall to a 1-3 record despite a valiant fight against the undefeated Swans.

“There were certainly some positives to take out of it. The last two weeks have been tough,” Webb said.

“We came out with a strong plan and strong intent, but we just didn’t execute in crucial moments.

“We’re far better than how we’ve been playing.

“As much as the performance is competitive, we’re not here to give away four points.

“We want to get back on the winners' list really quickly - we just have to keep looking at the process and what we do during the week.”

Down by only three points at the major break, Walyalup were unable to maintain the pressure, kicking just one goal in the second half - including a scoreless third quarter - while the Swans added four of their own.

The 0-28 third quarter proved to be the difference in the end. Walyalup broke even in clearances with 24 apiece, although they were outscored by 18 points and gained nearly 300 metres fewer from clearances compared to the Swans.

Webb concluded that the 1-3 start to the season would require a swift response from her side - one she expects to come in the Club’s RAC Derby against West Coast in Round 5.

“I have no doubt in my mind they’ll get up again, as they always do, but it’s a bit of a line-in-the-sand moment for us,” Webb said.

“We need to get back to the football we know.

“We’ve had some challenging opponents, and we’ve got more coming up, so we need to make a real statement this week.”
