Defender Laura Pugh gave her fellow teammates down back some praise for their efforts after Fremantle’s 15-point loss to Hawthorn on Thursday night.

Vice-captain Ash Brazill and defender Jess Low both reached their 50th AFLW game milestone on Thursday night, and Pugh touched on how lucky she feels to have them by her side.

“Those two are the best,” Pugh said.

“I wish we could’ve got the win for them because what they do on track and off the field is just incredible.

“To see J-Low kick her first (AFLW) goal in 50 games was really special.”

Defender Emma O’Driscoll held up as one of Fremantle’s best for the evening, with 11 intercept possessions, 16 disposals and five tackles.

“She was just incredible tonight,” Pugh said on O’Driscoll.

“Her intent and knowing what she had to do and her role and play on a really important key forward for Hawks, she just did incredibly (well).

“She held us in good stead the whole night.

“Her intercept marking and her drive off half back was incredible and I just love playing with Driz.”

Young gun defender Indi Strom made a Round 1 AFLW debut this season and has become a key pillar of Fremantle’s backline, having played all eight games so far.

“(I am) just really confident with having Indi back there,” Pugh said.

“I don’t know if she’s lost a one-on-one, like she is incredible.

“The way she tracks across the ground, you know she’s got the family footy brain of the Strom’s.

“It’s a lot of fun having her there and I can’t wait to continue to see her grow.”

Pugh praised All Australian ruck and the other Strom in Mim, as she continues to act as another midfielder for the group on-field.

“Everyone’s probably looking up to Mim after her year last year, but she just continues to bring that competitive spirit,” Pugh said.

“Just watching Mim out of the middle, I’ve got the best seat in the house.

“She’s always competing and setting the tone for us, and she’s always helping down back as well, which is incredible.”

Fremantle have a 10-day break until they play their Round 9 game against Melbourne back home at Fremantle Oval on Sunday 12 October.

“We’ll hit the ground running next week, get back to those fundamentals, and play Melbourne on Sunday,” Pugh said ahead of Round 9.
