Fremantle duo Mim Strom and Gabby Newton have been recognised among the competition’s best, earning selection in the 2025 AFLW All Australian Team.

The honour marks back-to-back All Australian seasons for Strom, who has been named as the ruck, while Newton has been rewarded with her first selection after a breakout campaign in the midfield, named on the interchange bench.

Head of AFLW Claire Heffernan said both players were beyond deserving of this recognition, and consistently set the standards for the group.

“Having two players selected in the All Australian team is something our whole Club is incredibly proud of,” Heffernan said.

“Their selections are a testament to the standards they set and the consistency they deliver.”

Strom has cemented herself as one of the premier rucks in the competition, backing up her 2024 selection with another dominant season in the middle, averaging 19.3 disposals, 12.8 contested possessions, and 19.8 hit outs per game.

Her impact extends beyond the ruck, as she was the third highest in the league for clearances with a total of 65 across 12 games, averaging 5.4 per game and 2.8 score involvements.

“Year on year, Mim continues to elevate her influence both on and off the field, and to be recognised as an All Australian for the second year in a row is thoroughly deserved,” Heffernan said.

“Not only is she incredibly dominant as a ruck, she also fills the role of an extra midfielder for us with the ground coverage she provides. Her work rate, craft, footy smarts and her impact in contests have all taken significant steps forward this season.

"She’s become a real leader in our group, and this honour reflects her professionalism and hard work.”

Newton’s second season at Freo showcased her power, versatility and consistency across the midfield and forward half.

A career best season in 2025, Newton has been a dominant force around the contest, averaging 11.8 contested possessions per game, 3.1 clearances and 7.3 tackles across her 12 games.

The 24-year-old had the ninth highest disposal count in the league, with 293 for the season and averaged 24.4 disposals per game.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to see Gabby named in the All Australian side for the first time,” Heffernan said.

“She set herself up with a really strong pre-season and a great lead-in to the year, and that platform allowed her to produce a powerful, consistent campaign.

“A skilful and intelligent footballer, Gabby brings a contested presence to our midfield and impacts in multiple ways across the ground. Her growth since arriving at our Club has been immense and this selection is a fantastic reward for the work she’s put in.”
