Senior coach Justin Longmuir says his side is preparing for West Coast’s best football in Sunday’s Western Derby 62.

Speaking at his Friday morning media conference, Longmuir said the Round 6 clash is a balance between nullifying West Coast’s best football and Fremantle playing to their strengths at the same time.

“They're (West Coast) a dangerous team when they get the game on their terms, and we've seen that plenty of times this year,” Longmuir said.

“They've had two good wins, both at home. We will prepare for them at their best.”

Longmuir stressed that although respect would be shown to West Coast, focusing on what his side has done well so far in 2026 is just as important.

“That Eagles tall forward line is dangerous because not many back lines have four tall backs, especially when you throw (Jake) Waterman in there as well,” Longmuir said.

“We will try and limit supply.

“To be honest, most of my worries are around our team and what we do, and trying to get our footy as good as it can be.

“We need to show them respect, and there are some individuals who will be shown that respect for sure.”

Longmuir confirmed ruckman Mason Cox would make his Club debut on Sunday, while forward speedster Michael Frederick will play his first game of the 2026 season.

“Mason (Cox) will come into the side and make his debut for the Club, and Freddy (Michael Frederick) will come back as well,” Longmuir said.

“Freddy’s trained really well, had a really good pre-season before he got hurt, and his last couple of weeks have been really strong on the track.

“We feel like his run is important to us.

“Mason's been in really good form.

“He’s been our best player at Peel in two WAFL games so far this season - he’s really just been waiting for an opportunity - and that opportunity has presented.”

Fremantle’s final team selection will be announced at fremantlefc.com.au at 3.00pm WST this afternoon.
