AFLW star Kellie Gibson said last Saturday’s loss to Adelaide was an important reality check.

Freo had a dream start to the season, going 3-0 and ranking as the highest scoring team in the competition during that time.

According to Gibson, Freo is using the loss as a driver to improve as the season ramps up.

“It’s a motivation to hopefully not drop another game and it could be a blessing in disguise,” Gibson said.

“I think its great to lose now instead of later on in the season because you don’t want to be on cloud nine for too long, so it’s a bit of a reality check for us.”

There were still some positives to take from the night, including Gibson’s performance of 12 disposals and three marks, her personal best for the season.

Evie Gooch also impressed, racking up a season high 17 disposals, 16 kicks and four marks.

Moving forward, Gibson said Freo is prepared to take on the challenge of the reigning premiers this weekend when they face the Bulldogs at Fremantle Oval.

“We face the reigning premiers, every round is so different and with every team it’s a different type of ball game,” Gibson said.

“We will have a look at their key performers like Katie Brennan and Ellie Blackburn through the middle and, hopefully, our midfield can take them on and we can score a little bit higher than what they do.”
