Four Fremantle players have been selected to be part of the historic Australia-Ireland AFLW clash to be held at North Sydney Oval on 1 August.

2025 Club Best and Fairest Aisling McCarthy and fellow Irish teammate Orlagh Lally will represent their homeland when they hit the field in the blockbuster one-off match, while Áine Tighe will oversee proceedings in her role as an assistant coach with the Ireland team.

Fremantle will be represented in the Australian side by ruck Mim Strom, fresh off her second consecutive All-Australian selection and elevation into the Freo leadership group for 2026.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I’m just incredibly privileged to be in this position.”

“Obviously, I was very excited to be selected in the All-Australian team again last year so to be picked to actually play this game is really exciting.”

Strom has mixed feelings about taking on her Fremantle teammates McCarthy and Lally.

“Hopefully they look after me to be honest because, you know the Irish, they are strong and quick. It’s going to be a really interesting battle, but I also think it will be a bit of a laugh and a bit of fun.

“I’m looking forward to testing myself against them as well.”

The match will be broadcast exclusively live on Fox Footy and Kayo.
