Fremantle forward Sam Switkowski believes the loss to the Giants is a good opportunity for the group to reset and reconfigure after a disappointing result.

Speaking post-match, Switkowski said valuing defence and contest will be an area the side will look to improve on again ahead of the clash with the Swans in Round 18.

“That was the message (from Justin Longmuir), just coming back to really valuing our defence and our contest, which probably let us down today,” Switkowski said.

“We've been trying for consistency all year and felt like we have been doing really well, but we let ourselves down with it today.

“From the first bounce they were more proactive, they hunted us in the contest, and we know they're a lethal team from their back half.

We couldn't really stop them before they got started today.

As per all the performances this season, Switkowski said the method of reviewing, taking lessons and moving on to the next week will remain the same as the team marches on towards the end of the season.

“We try and review every game the same, regardless of the result, in terms of taking the learnings and improvements and focusing on the stuff we did well,” Switkowski said.

“There'll be some good learnings from this game, absolutely.

“A good opportunity for some realignment to what we've been doing well across the season.”

Fremantle will now have a six-day break before taking on second-on-the-ladder Sydney at Optus Stadium on Thursday 9 July.

The match will also be the Club’s Starlight Purple Haze Game, proudly presented by South32.
