Fremantle has locked away the minor premiership and completed a perfect 12-0 season at Optus Stadium, powering away from Adelaide with a trademark late burst to win by 24 points on Friday night. 

The Crows fought hard in a high-stakes clash that was tied early in the final quarter, but they couldn't contain Freo right to the end as the ladder leaders kicked five late goals to secure the victory, 16.16 (112) to 13.10 (88). 

The gritty win sealed the Club's first minor premiership since 2015 – and just the second in Club history – while equalling the record for most home-and-away wins in a season for a WA club, matching West Coast's 19 wins from 1991. 

Fremantle's Optus Stadium record has played a pivotal role in the record-breaking season for Justin Longmuir's team, but Adelaide threatened at stages on Friday night to breach the fortress.  

Needing a win to secure a top-six spot and potentially move into the top four, the Crows are now at risk of falling into the wildcard positions, highlighting just how significant Friday night's clash was.

Key forward Jye Amiss was the star on Friday night, booting an equal career-high five goals in a forward line that saw sidekick Josh Treacy take 11 marks and kick 1.4, and small forward Isaiah Dudley boot three in a lively performance. 

Midfield leader Caleb Serong (29 disposals and 12 clearances) was outstanding, booting two critical goals including a long-range gem from the centre square, with sidekick Andrew Brayshaw (27 and a goal) standing tall in big moments. 

Shai Bolton was electric in the front half and had a massive 15 inside 50s from his 27 disposals, with Freo primed for a September campaign that will see them play twice at Optus Stadium. 

Izak Rankine was given space to do damage and finished with a game-high 39 disposals, with the Crows bringing plenty of heat throughout a tough match and staying in the contest through efficient scoring.

They couldn't hold up in the final term under a weight of inside 50s as Fremantle put the foot down as they have done so many times through a brilliant season.   

Their start to the game, however, was best described as fumbly and hesitant as Adelaide seized its opportunity with early goals to Rory Laird, Darcy Fogarty and Callum Ah Chee. 

Amiss missed a 20m set shot at the other end in a worrying sign for Freo, but he quickly made amends after Mason Cox laid a crunching tackle in the midfield and Luke Ryan – in his 200th game – sent a pinpoint inside 50 towards the spearhead. 

It was the first of three straight goals for Amiss, with Bolton setting up the next with some brilliance on the wing and then Sam Switkowski breaking free at a centre stoppage to hit the 23-year-old on the lead.

The Crows got numbers into defence to try and clog up the leading lanes, but a late goal to Serong saw Fremantle take a 13-point lead into the first break. 

Adelaide ran hard to stifle the Freo's ball-movement through a tight second quarter, with a pair of goals to Josh Rachele giving the team some reward as it made the most of fewer opportunities. 

Zac Taylor snapped a brilliant goal out of traffic, but neither team could make a decisive move as Fremantle took a five-point lead into half time.

The third term was a wild ride as the lead changed four times, with scores also tied on four occasions as both teams lifted their pressure and attack on the ball. 

Treacy inserted himself in the contest with a desperate tackling effort on Max Michalanney and a crucial goal moments later, with Riley Thilthorpe booting his first goal for the game minutes later from a free kick. 

The Crows edged ahead after Cook snapped his second goal, but Fremantle's midfield stars stepped up, with Serong booting a brilliant goal from the centre square and taking a contested mark on the wing when the Crows surged forward.

Brayshaw dribbled a clever goal through to give the ladder leaders a seven-point lead at the last change, laying down the challenge to the Crows. 

Thilthorpe levelled the game with an early goal in the final term, but Freo took control to close the game out, with Amiss booting his fifth from the goal square before a brilliant snap from Dudley gave Fremantle a match-winning 22-point lead.
