Fremantle will need to beat Sydney at Cockburn ARC Oval next Sunday if they’re to be any chance of finals following a 30-point loss to Geelong.
Defender Indi Strom said while the side were disappointed with the Cats loss, they would take positives out of outscoring their opponents in the final quarter.
“It was disappointing to lose, but Geelong is a really good side, they've only lost the one game all season,” Strom said.
“I think there's a lot to take out of our last quarter. We showed a lot of resilience. We had a few people going down, but we fought really hard to the end. We'll take that into next week.”
Strom’s fellow defenders Aoife Healy and Indi West were forced to take on new roles following a frantic final term that saw Fremantle down several players on the bench due to injury.
“Our defenders fought really hard to the end. It was coming into their forward fifty pretty quick,” Strom said.
“Credit to Aoife and Indi who had the ability to change roles a few times, going inside into the middle and being able to be adaptable.”
Fremantle are already switching focus to their final game of the regular season against Sydney at Cockburn ARC Oval on Sunday.
“We took a lot from this game and we'll bring our fight into next game in front of our home crowd especially and do our absolute best.”
Sunday’s Round 12 clash with Sydney will be a chance to celebrate and farewell retiring defender Ash Brazill in her final match at home.
