In the lead up to our Mother's Day match this Sunday against Port Adelaide, fremantlefc.com.au is profiling a selection of players and their mums.

Today we feature Garrick Ibbotson and his mum Peta:

When did you first realise Garrick was going to be a star?
He played a lot of sport from a very young age. He was quite competitive and was always determined to be the best and never wanted to miss training. I'm not sure ‘star’ would sit well with him though.

What’s the hardest thing about watching him play footy?
Obviously the worry of a serious injury and the disappointment of a loss.

What’s the nicest thing Garrick has done for you?
Getting himself drafted to Freo so he could stay in W.A.

What do you think is Garrick’s greatest quality?
His ability to have empathy for people and his sense of humour.

Can you tell us any hidden talents he has?
His singing debut on The Footy Show recently was a surprise, and he would still be pretty good with a soccer ball.

Garrick's thoughts on his mum:

What is the best thing about your mum?
She lives close to me, so I can pop in whenever and she makes an amazing lasagna.

One thing your mum taught you growing up that has stuck?
Respect your elders.

If your talent is footy - what’s your mum's talent?
Boxing. She has just joined Springer’s Boxing Gym.

When you go to mums for dinner - what do you always hope she has cooked for you?
Other than her lasagna, probably pork balls in a laksa sauce

What is the best present you've ever bought your mum?
A birdbath.
