Justin Wearne remembers his first derby. It was May 14, 1995 - the first ever derby played between Fremantle and West Coast.

For Justin, the day was meant to be one to celebrate, but unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way.

“It was my 18th birthday, and I will never forget that day, the Eagles flogged us by 85 points, I have never forgiven them for that,” Justine said.

The now 35-year-old is entering his 19th consecutive season as a Freo member, and he’s proud to have been on board from the beginning.

“Just being part of something from the start is a highlight of being a member,” Justin said.

“I was at the first ever training session and scratch match. As soon as Freo came into the competition I made a commitment to myself that I would support them.”

And that’s exactly what he’s done.

“I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve. All I’ve ever wanted is for the team to do well and have some success. I remember the times when things were pretty tough ,when we struggled to win a game, let alone a premiership that was pretty tough.”

Over the past 18 years, many things have changed in Justin’s life.

He has a family of his own, which sometimes creates some challenges, but he doesn’t let that stop them from getting to the games.

“We all go to the footy together, it doesn’t matter what’s happening with our lives we just make sure we get to every game, no matter what,” he said.

The Wearne family’s commitment to Freo goes unquestioned.

“We’re all members. We are a Freo family for sure,” he said.

This year brought a furry addition to the family, and Justin’s made sure he didn’t miss out either.

“We got our first dog ever this year, he is a Maltalier and his name is Harry,” he said.

“I didn’t have to think twice, I didn’t even tell anyone I was doing it. I just signed Harry up straight away for a Purple Paws membership.”

Justin’s ready for season 2013 and isn’t planning on missing a beat.

“I’ve only ever missed seven home games. I’ve seen every single derby, even the Eagles home game derbys.  I’m not planning on missing another game. Not for a long while anyway,” Justin said.

“I love being able to say that I’ve stuck to the team through think and thin.

“It’s going to be all the more worth while when we experience some sustained success.”
