Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir is in no rush to see captain Nat Fyfe return from a concussion despite being pleased with how the two-time Brownlow Medallist has recovered following Freo’s win against GWS on Sunday.

Fyfe sustained the head knock in the third term and came out of the game under the AFL’s new medical sub rule.

In an interview on Tuesday's Seven News, Longmuir said Fremantle had Fyfe’s well-being as the number one priority and would not put a timeframe on his return.

“He’s in good spirits and he was mingling with his teammates and walked a few laps of the oval. The signs so far are pretty good,” Longmuir told Seven News.

“We’ll follow the doctor’s protocols, it’s up to them and how Nathan’s feeling. These things are a little bit unpredictable and we’ll see how it plays out over the next couple of weeks and see what he’s like for next weekend.

“We have to be really careful with all of our players’ health, especially when it comes to the brain.

“We’ll give him as long as he needs to get over this and we’ll welcome him back when he’s ready.”

Without Fyfe available to face Carlton on Sunday at Marvel Stadium, Longmuir said Fremantle would need their younger midfielders, including Andrew Brayshaw, Adam Cerra and Caleb Serong, to continue their promising start to the season.

“We feel like a lot of our youth have been taking steps forward,” Longmuir said.

“They’ve all had consistent starts and we really need them to continue now that we have the skipper out. We need all of our players to be really consistent and continue the form from the weekend.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to string a couple (of wins) together.”

In positive news for Fremantle’s forward line, Rory Lobb could return as early as round six from a knee injury.

Longmuir said the Club’s medical staff have had to put the breaks on Lobb, with the versatile forward/ruck recovering quickly from the injury sustained in the AAMI Community Series against West Coast.

“He’s tracking really well and feeling confident, which is a really positive sign,” Longmuir said.

“He’s pushing the doctors to go a little bit quicker so he’s one of those cases where we’re going to have to hold him back, which is a good sign.”

Longmuir said Michael Walters needs to get through Thursday’s main training to earn selection and added that rookie key forward Josh Treacy would ‘come into consideration’ for a debut against Carlton.
