Senior coach Justin Longmuir has been pleased with how 18-year-old key forward Josh Treacy has performed in his role since making his debut in round four.

Treacy is yet to kick his first major in the AFL but Longmuir said the 194cm big man’s presence has allowed more space for the likes of Matt Taberner to impact the game.

Since Treacy made his debut, Taberner has averaged more than three goals per game.

“He’s a young key forward who’s playing a role for us at the moment that probably doesn’t allow him to get on the end of too many chains of possessions,” Longmuir said.

“What he’s doing is he’s allowing others to get one-on-one looks. He’s occupying a good defender.”

Longmuir said that Fremantle may go with just two tall forwards in Taberner and Rory Lobb for Sunday’s RAC Derby.

The return of midfielder Darcy Tucker could mean Nat Fyfe is rotated more through the forward line.

“We’ll have to weigh that up, whether we want to go three talls,” Longmuir said.

“The other aspect of it is, (Treacy) probably limits Fyfe going forward as we’d, in essence, be playing four tall forwards down there.

“It’s something we’re trying to work through, whether we give (Treacy) another go and give him a stint (for Peel).

“We’ll have that discussion this arvo, see how the rest of the team pulls up after the captain’s run and lodge our team tomorrow night.”
