The big talking point heading into Fremantle’s clash against Sydney was Fremantle’s inside 50 pressure, or lack of it.

Heading into the game, Fremantle ranked last for tackles per game inside 50 with an average of 6.6 per game while the Swans were ranked no.1 in the AFL.

Freo flipped the table in the clash with 16 tackles inside 50 to Sydney’s six.

Small forward Sam Switkowski contributed five tackles for the game and revealed in the Final Siren Podcast why Freo’s forwards were extra motivated to bring the pressure.

“It was a massive focus for us, that pressure coming in, especially as a small forward,” Switkowski said.

“Our (forward) line, we have this little game throughout the week where anyone who has zero tackles they have to buy coffees for the entire forwardline.

“Whenever someone has to do the coffee run, they always have the most tackles the next week.

“I reckon David Hale, our forwards coach, might have to do the coffee run this week as everyone got involved.”

Switkowski said the six day break benefited a Freo side hungry to make amends for a deflating loss to Essendon.

“We were really disappointed and flat after the loss last week. We thought we actually played some good footy, we just couldn’t execute,” Switkowski said.

“When you go east and play some good footy but can’t get the four points, it was really frustrating.

“We love six-day breaks after a loss as it means the next game comes around quicker.

“The boys prepared really well during the week, everyone was feeling really good when it came to the bounce and I’d say the crowd gave us a bit of an extra life.”
