How did Freo's standout performances against Collingwood rank in the club's history?

Let's have a look at Fremantle's 12-point win at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

Darcy on clearance
Alongside Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy is regarded as the best ruck in the current era, so it’s remarkable that Sean Darcy could put up career-high numbers in a stat that Grundy usually excels. Darcy had a career-high nine clearances in the clash, the most by a Fremantle ruckman at Docklands but well behind the all-time best of 13 by Aaron Sandilands against Carlton in 2010.
While Darcy won his own footy, the 23-year-old still feels he has some catching up to do to reach Grundy’s level.
“He showed me how to work around the ground today, he was unbelievable,” Darcy told Fox Footy.
“He got forward and kicked a couple of goals which I was fuming about, but we’ll go again next time.”

Team effort
In what is a great sign for a young team, Freo’s win came without an obvious star performance – perhaps a side effect of having two-time Brownlow winner Nat Fyfe on the sidelines.
Of the top-six disposal winners, only one was a Fremantle player in David Mundy.
Freo lost the disposal stat by 54, but still managed to create opportunities by winning the inside 50s +4 and clearances +11.

Bit of Mundy love
Mundy’s 28 disposals were enough to lead his side, but it was just a regular day out for the Freo legend. In his 346-game career, Mundy has had 28 disposals or more 63 times.
The 35-year-old had 11 disposals in the second term in a quarter Freo dominated to build a 19-point lead at half time. It was the 84th time in his career that he’s had 10 disposals or more in a quarter.

Brayshaw building
Similar to Mundy, Andrew Brayshaw's day wasn't overly spectacular but still another sign of his importance.
The 21-year-old collected the second-most disposals for Fremantle with 24, the 16th highest total in his 69 games to date.
His six inside 50s was one off a career-high while he also had six intercepts, trailing only Alex Pearce (7) for Freo.

Fist of fury
Griffin Logue gave no quarter in a ferocious defensive effort with a career-high 11 spoils.
The performance is a sign of Logue stepping up in the absence of Brennan Cox and Joel Hamling, who are two of just five Fremantle players who have racked up 11 or more spoils in a game.

Still young
The team that defeated Collingwood had an average age of 24.9, the third youngest of the round, with an average experience of 78.3 games, the second least experienced.
Collingwood’s starting 22 had an average age of 26.4 with an average 105 games of experience.

Putting the Dock back into Docklands
Another reason why Saturday’s win was so important was because it ended a seven-game losing streak at the Docklands ground.
In recent years, Marvel Stadium was a ground where Freo would let games slip, losing to Essendon by seven points in 2019, St Kilda by three points in 2019, Essendon by six points in 2020 and Essendon by seven points earlier in 2021.

All square
This is the fifth time in Fremantle history that they have had a 7-7 record after 14 games.
On two of the previous four occasions, Freo went on to make finals, including a preliminary final in 2006.
It did take two incredible runs into the finals, with Freo going 8-0 to finish the season in 2006 and 7-1 to finish the season in 2012.
