Despite being happy to get the four points, Matthew Pavlich says Freo remains disappointed at its inability to show up for four quarters of football.
The Western Bulldogs were well on top in the first half before a Pavlich-inspired Freo kicked away for a 38-point win in the second half.
“We were pleased to get the victory but still disappointed in some aspects of the way we played,” Pavlich said.
“It was more the fact that we weren’t organised behind the footy and not using the ball as best we could.
“Some of our discipline was lacking. The competition is so even, it doesn’t really take much for a team to get on top when your discipline isn’t right.”
“We were getting the ball inside 50 enough but we weren’t capitalising and playing the way we should.”
Pavlich admitted it was pleasing to see the team respond the way it did in the second half, but he said it should have never got to that point.
“That’s not what we should be about,” he said.
“We should be an every time team and delivering no matter the circumstance.
“It was pleasing for the response but we’re disappointed that we didn’t start the game the way we should of.”
The skipper said the team would now prepare for next Saturday’s Etihad Stadium game against Melbourne, which defeated Freo by 15 goals at the MCG last season.
Despite the Demons’ lowly position on the ladder, Pavlich said there was no such thing as an easy game in the AFL.
“That’s why it’s the AFL and the elite competition in Australia,” he said.
“Everyone is, on their day, capable of beating anyone.”
“We’ll go over there with a real hard-hosed attitude to get the four points.”
