Senior Coach Justin Longmuir is yet to decide if midfielder Will Brodie will travel with Fremantle to Adelaide or remain in Perth to play for Peel in the WAFL.

Freo will depart on Thursday for what will be a nine-day road trip, playing the Crows at Adelaide Oval and Gold Coast at Norwood Oval in Gather Round.

Peel Thunder will start their WAFL season on Good Friday at Rushton Park against East Fremantle in Mandurah, and Longmuir said he wanted as many non-selected players in action as possible for the Thunder.

“We’ll take a pretty small squad for the first game,” Longmuir said.

“It’s exciting as we’ve got Peel starting this week, it’s Friday night footy for them.

“We want to get as many guys playing for Peel as we can and get their season underway and get some good match fitness. We’ll fly some guys over if needed.”

WIll Brodie, Andrew Brayshaw, Caleb Serong and Sean Darcy at a centre bounce against North Melbourne in round two.

Brodie was an omission in round three as Fremantle mixed up their midfield rotation, giving more centre bounce appearances to the likes of James Aish, Sam Switkowski and Like Jackson.

“There’s a chance (Brodie) could travel this week and there’s a chance he could play for Peel as well, we need to talk about it this afternoon,” Longmuir said.

“Clearly there’s some things he needs to work on in his game, he wasn’t bringing his strengths. We saw his strengths all last year, that’s what he built his game on and he probably went away from that in the first two weeks.

“We want to get him back to his best and I still see him as a big part of our future. He’ll work on a couple areas of his game and come back better for it.”

Longmuir said round three substitute and debutant Matthew Johnson was likely to retain his spot for the Crows clash on Saturday.

“We saw some of his strengths with his composure in the contest. It can be hard to come into a game like that and go onto the wing,” Longmuir said.

“I thought he had a good impact, we got him on the ball late which is probably going to be a role later in his career.

“He had a great play to set up Brayshaw’s goal in the last quarter which got us rolling. He enjoyed it and he’ll build off that.

“I think (he’ll retain his spot), a similar role will probably fit.”

Longmuir said Nat Fyfe will ‘week to week’ as he looks to return from a plantar fascia injury.

“It’s a bit unpredictable the injury, we’ve already tried a few things,” Longmuir said.

“We’ve got some improvement but not as much as we would like.

“We feel like it could come good pretty quick, maybe the Gold Coast game, but it’s a bit unpredictable and week to week.”
