Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman says midfielder Hayden Young will be out for up to three months after undergoing surgery on his hamstring on Tuesday morning.
Young unfortunately suffered a reoccurrence of an old injury during the second quarter of the Club’s loss to St Kilda on Friday.
“It’s so disappointing for Youngy who’s reaggravated an old hamstring injury,” Merriman said.
“He’s actually gone in for surgery (this morning) - so even though it’s not in the traditional spot of the normal hamstring bicep femoris injury - he will be around about the 10 to 12 weeks mark.”
19-year-old key defender Ollie Murphy has entered concussion protocols and will be sidelined for one week after suffering a collision late in Peel Thunder’s grand final re-match loss to East Perth.
“It was late in the game. He’s (Murphy) progressing well and is showing no ill effects or concerns from the concussion,” Merriman said.
“He will progress through the protocols as we normally do.”
Positively, midfielder Nathan O’Driscoll could make his return to football this week after a month on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
“He (O’Driscoll) turned the corner quite quickly this week,” Merriman said.
“He’s got a couple more hurdles to jump over before we declare his availability, but it is looking promising.”
Meanwhile, Merriman confirmed veterans Michael Walters (knee) and Jaeger O’Meara (hamstring/foot) are approximately five weeks from playing again.
“Both of them will be around the post-bye game which is Round 14 (against North Melbourne),” Merriman said.
“They are both progressing really well.
“Sonny (Walters) has been building his loads up on field.
“Jaeger is a little bit slower, with his foot taking a little bit longer to start loading on field but we still see Round 14 as being the appropriate time.”
