Fremantle defender Corey Wagner says he is gaining valuable confidence from playing a variety of roles for the team after helping hold Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos to his lowest disposal count since Round 13 of 2024.

Wagner shared tagging duties on the midfielder with co-vice-captain Andrew Brayshaw, constantly applying pressure and wearing the midfielder like a glove.

“I’ll do whatever I need to do for the team,” Wagner said in a post-match interview on the Final Siren podcast.

“I want to put as much trust in the coach as I can - that I can go anywhere and do anything. If that means taking on any small role, I’m happy to do that.

“He’s (Daicos) a star and is going to be one of the greatest to play the game.

“To do that with the help of AB (Andrew Brayshaw) - he was tired by the time I got to him—so he tried to drag me forward.

“It’s good for the confidence.”

Wagner is coming off a Fremantle Club-record 16 tackles in a single game in Round 8, and tonight backed up that effort by helping reduce Daicos’ impact.

ALL THE MOMENTS

Meanwhile forward Josh Treacy said the team can take plenty of positives from the four-quarter performance, but ultimately will take key learnings from the 14-point loss to the Pies.

With 10 more inside 50s than their season average, Treacy said the team is doing a lot right, and staying consistent will bring results.

“When we play like we did - how we wanted to - for four quarters and still lose, it hurts,” Treacy said.

“We clearly got a lot right, but a few things in the forward half just let us down - a bit of composure.

“You spend all this time in your forward half, and you feel like you should be scoring, but it’s not always the case. It can get frustrating, but you can’t let it get to you because the game is played over such a long time and you’ll get your moments.

“We know that any week, if we get a lot of time in our forward half, eventually the opposition will break and we’ll get a look in.

“There were times they just wouldn’t give in, and that speaks to the quality of side they are.

“It’s something we’ll keep chipping away at for sure.”

Fremantle now move to four wins and five losses for the season, with an away trip against the GWS Giants coming up in Round 10.
