Fremantle forward Pat Voss has said he plays his football with the intent of repaying the Club that gave his career a second chance.
Speaking at his Monday afternoon media conference, Voss said proving Freo right was more important to him than proving Essendon wrong ahead of Thursday night’s meeting with his former club.
Voss spent two years on the Bombers list, winning the VFL fairest and best in 2023 before being delisted at the end of the season.
“It’s just another game. I don’t have a point to prove to anyone there. I’ve got a point to prove to people here (at Fremantle) - that they made the right choice to pick me up,” Voss said.
“I’m grateful for my time at Essendon more than anything. Without my time there, I wouldn’t be here.
“They were a massive part of my development.
“I’m loving my time here so far; they (Fremantle) threw me a lifeline and provided me with the environment to get better as a player and as a person.”
Voss has been enjoying career-best football in 2025, kicking six goals in the last two rounds to take his tally to 13 for the season. The 21-year-old said working on his goalkicking had been a major focus since arriving in the West after being invited to train, then signing with the Club.
“It’s good to finish off your work and that’s been a focus area of mine,” Voss said.
“I did a bit of work on the consistency of my set-shot kicking. Now I’ve got a really clear focus and I’m really confident in my routine.
“From the outside looking in, it looks like you play a better game when you kick goals, but for us it’s about valuing all the right stuff - not necessarily just kicking goals.

“Valuing the right things within the team, doing the team stuff first - that’s what I’ll be looking to do again this week. If the goals come, then it’s an added bonus.”
Speaking on the Club’s win over North Melbourne, the forward said the team was happy to bank the premiership points, but knew there was still work to be done.
“Just playing for that 120 minutes of consistency that we are looking for,” Voss said.
“It’s great to be winning, but we’re not necessarily talking about four (wins) in a row or what’s to come - we’re talking about Essendon this weekend and how we can improve on last weekend.
“It probably sounds boring - and everyone within the Club is saying it - but we’re taking it one week at a time, not looking too far ahead and searching for 120 minutes of consistent footy.”
Bounce down for Fremantle’s clash with Essendon at Optus Stadium on Thursday night is 6.10pm WST.
