Fremantle first year player Georgie Brisbane is midway through her maiden AFLW season, achieving a Round 1 debut after a long pre-season.

Spending her time deep up forward so far, Brisbane is looking to continue to find ways to enhance her craft and become a dangerous key forward.

The 19-year-old spoke to SEN WA’s Mark Duffield on Wednesday morning and said she looks up to teammate and fellow key forward in Áine Tighe, praising her guidance.

“(I’ve learnt) so much,” Brisbane told Duffield.

“When we’re at trainings and games she’s almost like another coach for me.

“She’s a friend and a teammate, but the words she gives me are just gold.”

Fremantle's first pick in the 2024 AFLW Draft, Brisbane booted her first AFLW goal in the Club's Round 6 clash with Essendon last weekend, after presenting well in the first half of the season.

Brisbane unpacked the invaluable information she’s taken in from her teammate and mentor in Tighe.

“Particularly around body work and body craft, I feel like that’s something she exceeds in for her game, and how (she’s able) to get on the back end of a lot of her hard work in goals,” Brisbane said.

“So, taking a lot of that into my games, and just little tricks here and there around body work and craft to get advantage of the contest – that’s definitely a big thing I’ve taken from Áine.

“She’s just so caring and so generous with her time and is such a valuable player.”

Tighe is at the back end of her right knee rehab, after rupturing her ACL in the early half of the 2024 NAB AFLW Season, and is expected to make her return to football in Round 10.

Brisbane praised Tighe for her work rate and how she has applied herself to her rehab over the past 12 months.

“Just watching her put her head down and get to work in her rehab and be so close to coming back is super exciting,” Brisbane said.

Fremantle have headed to Melbourne for a ten-day trip, where the side will play back-to-back away games against Carlton on Friday night and Hawthorn in Round 8 next Thursday.

Bouncedown for Fremantle’s Round 7 clash with Carlton on Friday 26 September will be 5.05pm EST at Ikon Park in Melbourne.
