Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick has ruled out key defender Brennan Cox ahead of Saturday’s pre-season hit out against Adelaide at Rushton Park in Mandurah.
Garlick spoke to SEN WA’s Mark Duffield on Monday morning and revealed Cox sustained a calf strain during last week’s match simulation against West Coast.
“Brennan Cox looks like he’s got a calf strain, so he won’t play this week,” Garlick said.
“It’s disappointing for Coxy, he’s had an incredible pre-season.
“He might not have the hugest profile in the competition, but he’s a critical player for us.”
Unclear on his return to play timeline, Garlick said the Club are still assessing the injury.
“We’ll assess that to see how significant it is,” Garlick said.
“It’s a bit early to tell, but he certainly won’t play against Adelaide this week, which is disappointing because you want him to get that last full dress rehearsal in before we play in Round 1.
Garlick confirmed no other injuries came out of the pre-season match simulation for the side.
Fremantle will prepare to face Adelaide in this Saturday's pre-season match at Rushton Park in Mandurah at 3.10pm WST.
The game will be broadcast live on Foxtel and Kayo and fully ticketed for fans via Ticketmaster
