Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon has urged his players to focus on delivering another high standard of performance heading into a difficult away trip against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Freo have lost their past four games at the ground with an average margin of 68 points but Lyon isn’t reading into any suggestion that Freo’s recent good form - or poor form at Adelaide Oval - will impact the clash.

“The past doesn’t count, because if the past counted we wouldn’t have even bothered to fly over to Adelaide Oval, we’d get ready for our next assignment at home,” Lyon said.

“You build belief and confidence comes from action, and we’re delivering the right actions at the moment.

“It’s a bit like (playing in) Geelong, we’ve won big finals down there and have been hammered there.

“It’s about the attitude you take and the competitiveness and the team spirit you take. We’ll aim to bring the best version of ourselves and our best version will have us in really good stead.”

Fremantle currently sit second on the ladder with a 4-2 record and Lyon said he’s pleased to see the team relishing the wins.

“They’re very hard to come by, AFL victories, so we want to enjoy those moments and come together and enjoy each other's company,” Lyon said.

“We went up to the Sky View Terrace (after the Western Bulldogs Game at Optus Stadium) for David Mundy’s 300th game celebration and it was just a really good vibe there.

“There is a really strong connection with the group and I can take that back to the (pre-season) Gold Coast camp where we worked hard, rolled out the game plan and connected there.

“It’s a credit to the coaching panel, the players and our conditioning group, that we’ve got us up for a position where we can compete.”

While Lyon is happy with Freo’s current standing, he warned it could change quickly.

“The feedback is the competition is so even, so if you’re not mentally and physically on every week you’re going to get caught out pretty quickly,” Lyon said.

“Even within games, if you breathe out, the momentum shifts are really quick so we’re just working really hard.”
