There was a Wyndham invasion in the Fremantle’s Optus Stadium change rooms as Jason Carter celebrated Fremantle’s 34-point win against the first-placed Geelong with his close family and friends.

The 19-year-old made history as the first person from his hometown to play an AFL game, with a large contingent making the more-than 3000km journey from the Kimberley to Perth for the occasion.

Carter said he felt like ‘half of Wyndham’ was in the crowd and said he could hear the cheers from his family over the raucous 36,310 fans in attendance.

“It was awesome! I could hear all of my family, I could hear them all calling out to me and that really gave me a boost,” Carter said.

“It was tough at the start but then once I settled in and got my feet in, everything was all good.”

Carter had some good moments in his first AFL run, impressing with his run and carry as a part of a young Fremantle defence.

Post-game, it was a Gatorade soaked Carter that embraced his family after singing the Fremantle song for the first time.

“(The Gatorade shower) was really cold! I couldn’t breathe there was so much Gatorade being thrown on me, but it was awesome, I loved it,” Carter said.

“(Seeing my family) was really emotional, I was almost in tears but I held it in.

“They said they were proud of me, saying that I made history as the first boy from Wyndham to play AFL, it was really exciting and I enjoyed it.”
